Osteopathy For Arthritis sufferers in Croxley Green, Rickmansworth, Watford and the surrounding areas
What is Arthritis?
There are many different types of arthritis such as, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, systemic lupus erythematosus, scleroderma and ankylosing spondylitis. The two most common types are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint condition also know as ‘wear and tear’ affecting the spine, hips, knees, feet and hands.
Rheumatoid arthritis is an auto-immune disease that causes chronic inflammation of the joints in the overall body.
Symptoms of arthritis
Arthritis is often caused by heavy labour work and previous injury. It can also be hereditary. Osteopathy can be an effective way to manage arthritisand the associated symptoms:-
- Neck pain
- Low back pain
- Hip/ knee pain
- Early morning stiffness
- Lack of mobility
- Swelling and inflammation
- Joint pain
- Referred muscle pain
Whilst there is no cure for arthritis most sufferers have noticed that regular osteopathic treatment can help to reduce pain, ease swelling, and improve mobility throughout the body. Through healthy eating, improved lifestyle and treatment many of my clients learn how to manage their symptoms to minimise the effects of any further degeneration.
Through the gentle stretching at the effected joints, muscles and ligaments, and appropriate articulation we can in some cases dramatically improve the quality of life for the sufferer.
Gentle exercise at home may also improve symptoms caused by pain.
The Aim of my osteopathic treatment is to:-
- Provide immediate relief from symptoms
- Reduce pain and swelling
- Promote range of joint movement
- Improve mobility
- Assist in rehabilitation after surgery such as hip replacement
- Educate on how you can improve your quality of life though diet, posture, and exercise.
